For Theatre Peckham, winning the Southwark Cultural Commitment Award helped “open doors” with local businesses and organisations to gain further support and recognition for the theatre’s amazing work.
Rebecca Usher, Marketing & Communications Manager, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to have won the Southwark Cultural Commitment Award at this year’s Business Excellence Awards.
“It was a wonderful achievement that we felt really celebrated all of our hard work over the past year at such an exciting and significant time in the theatre’s development. Last September, Suzann McLean took up the role of our new Artistic Director of Theatre Peckham, taking over from founder Teresa Early MBE. With Suzann at the helm we have started on a journey that will enable us to deliver the next chapter in Theatre Peckham’s history. The award really cements that we are going in the right direction and our cultural impact in Southwark is truly felt.
“We understand the challenges within our industry and community and we are working hard to deliver solutions that will focus on growing all aspects of our work by developing Participants, Leaders, Artists and Audiences.
“Over the next few years, Theatre Peckham will deliver an outstanding artistic programme which inspires young people to participate, learn and achieve and reach our goal to be a creative place-making organisation providing cultural learning opportunities for all.
“Winning the award has certainly raised the profile of the theatre within the borough. It has opened doors and enabled us to build relationships with local businesses and organisations who will be able to support the growth of the theatre, create opportunities and support the work we are doing with young people in Southwark for years to come.”
