Climate change is a major challenge facing us all. In recent years, the borough’s businesses have been embracing the opportunities presented by the Government commitment for the UK to be net zero by 2050. This Award seeks to showcase the efforts and innovation of Southwark businesses in embracing green initiatives, and how their employees and the wider community have been involved in that journey.

Judges will be looking for organisations that have:

• A business which includes a wide-ranging and innovative eco-friendly approach to developing their business more sustainably.
• Motivated their staff to try sustainable practices, from electric cars and cycling, to in-house resource saving.
• Invested financially in their initiatives, from carbon reduction to waste management.
• Used technology to further their ‘green’ ambitions.
• Created new jobs with a sustainability element.
• Strong links with, and support for, the local Southwark community, for example, through raising money for social projects and volunteering.
• Have evidence of how green initiatives have enhanced the business, for example, staff retention, higher turnover, publicity.
