05 Jun Green light for Old Kent Road mixed-use scheme
A mixed-use development on Old Kent Road, made up of 565 homes, 200 of which offered with social rents and 43,000 sq ft of commercial space has been approved by Southwark Council, subject to conditions.
The application for Devonshire Square, submitted by Shaw Corporation on behalf of Barkwest, was granted subject to a referral to the Mayor of London and other conditions including a three-year limit to begin work on site and a demolition noise plan.
The 38-storey development, on 747-759 and 765-775 Old Kent Road, will also provide a public square, new green spaces and infrastructure improvements including new roads and wider pavements.
The development will be opposite Transport for London’s site for a new tube station as part of the Bakerloo line extension, and work is expected to start on site next year.
