Elephant and Castle Town Centre celebrates return of the elephant!

Demolition is well underway on the Elephant and Castle Town Centre Project site to make way for a new and improved town centre featuring new homes, shops, restaurants, leisure spaces, and even an upgraded tube station entrance.

The town centre will also bring new jobs and workspace, creating 1,230 construction jobs per year for a decade and then approximately 2,000 full-time jobs in the new town centre.

On Saturday 26 June the local community came together in Castle Square to celebrate the return of the Elephant Statue to Elephant and Castle. To mark the elephant’s homecoming, Elephant & Castle brought the story to life with a spectacle performance of Elephantastic: “The Story of a Travelling Elephant” which was performed in Castle Square across the day.

You can read all about what’s going on in the local community, including updates on the redevelopment of the town centre in the latest edition of Elephant and Castle Town Centre’s very own newspaper, the Castle Chronicle here.

The newspaper also celebrates lockdown heroes, the amazing people who have helped others through the worst months of the pandemic.
